The Inuit Futurism Center (IFC) is a social practice media arts installation that exists both physically and online as part of the residency of Allison Akootchook Warden at the Anchorage Museum. Warden poses the question, “If a center for the genre of Inuit Futurism art existed, how would it function as service to artists and the community?”. The IFC seeks to connect Inuit artists through physical portals and also through virtual gathering spaces. The IFC investigates the genre of Inuit Futurism and proposes that the work of all Inuit Artists through time can be enveloped into the genre of futurism. The IFC serves to connect Inuit Artists to one another through conversations and also sharing physical studio space. The IFC also connects art institutions in conversations with one another, including Inuit artists in relationship to these same institutions. The Inuit Futurism Center is also raising capital for a physical center to be established in an Arctic community, as well as capital to support gatherings of Inuit Futurism artists and the maintenance of the virtual spaces and store.
The IFC is currently open to grants, donations and resources to support Warden to move to Anchorage to activate the center in-person, full-time. The Anchorage Museum is a 501(c)3 organization and donations are tax deductible. About $80K is what is needed to bring the IFC to the next level. Quyanaqpak in advance!
Warden is currently working on a separate IFC website, hosted entirely on its own. It is set-up, but needs more content to get up and running. If you are an Inuit Artist, please send your bio and photo to Allison Akootchook Warden and she will put you up on the site! Note to Inuit Artists: the idea is to have a website with all the Inuit Artists and links to their websites all on one webpage. All the Inuit Artists everywhere, gathered virtually, so that people can connect with more Inuit awesomeness!
